GB/T 22053-2008 Standard Summary for Pentane Blend

The GB/T 22053-2008 standard summary for Pentane Vesicant:

  • Standard Number: GB/T 22053-2008
  • Chinese Title: 戊烷发泡剂
  • English Title: Pentane Vesicant
  • Scope:
    • Applies to pentane vesicant refined by distillation from pentane-containing raw materials
    • Primarily used as a blowing agent in expandable polystyrene and flexible polyurethane production
    • Also applicable as a chemical or laboratory solvent

Chemical Information

  • Molecular Formula: C₅H₁₂
  • Relative Molecular Mass: 72.15 (based on 2001 international atomic weights)

Grades and Composition

Pentane vesicant consists of n-pentane (nCs) and isopentane (iCs), available in 11 grades:

Graden-Pentane (%)Isopentane (%)

Technical Requirements

  • Appearance: Clear, colorless liquid with no turbidity
  • Relative Retention Values (selected components):
ComponentRetention Value
Isobutane0.368
n-Butane0.531
Isopentane1.000
n-Pentane1.237

Inspection Rules

  • Types of Inspection:
    • Factory Inspection: Conducted by the manufacturer’s quality department; includes total pentane content and C6+ components
    • Type Inspection: Covers all parameters; performed at least once per month during normal production
  • Acceptance: Must be completed within 15 days of receipt by the user
  • Sampling: As per SY/T 0543
  • Judgment: Based on GB/T 1250 rounding comparison method; if any parameter fails, retest from double units. If retest fails, the batch is rejected.

Labeling, Packaging, Transport, Storage

  • Labeling:
    • Must include product name, trademark, grade, manufacturer name and address, net weight, batch number, standard code, and “flammable” symbol per GB 190
  • Packaging:
    • Filling coefficient for tankers or containers must not exceed 0.85
  • Transport:
    • Ensure ventilation, avoid impact, dragging, direct sunlight, and open flames; comply with national hazardous goods transport regulations
  • Storage:
    • Separate from oxygen, compressed air, oxidizers
    • Avoid heat sources, sunlight, rain
    • Display “No Smoking/Fire” signs, implement fire/explosion protection measures, and equip with appropriate fire extinguishers

Safety Information

  • Physical Hazards:
    • Highly flammable; vapor forms explosive mixtures with air
    • Vapor is heavier than air and may travel to ignition sources
  • Health Hazards:
    • Low toxicity
    • High concentrations may irritate eyes and respiratory tract, cause anesthesia or unconsciousness
    • Chronic exposure may lead to mild dermatitis and mucosal irritation
    • Protective equipment required in high-concentration environments
