Description
TBPS (Di-tert-Butyl Polysulfide), CAS 68937-96-2, is a factory-manufactured organosulfur presulfiding agent widely used across refinery hydrotreating, hydrocracking, and coal chemical catalyst activation processes. As a direct alternative to DMDS, TBPS delivers controlled, low-odor sulfur release that supports smoother catalyst startup and continuous sulfur injection operations.
In addition, compared to conventional sulfiding agents, TBPS offers a mild, low-volatility odor profile combined with a high open-cup flash point. As a result, this reduces odor-related complaints on-site and improves overall handling safety for refinery personnel. Furthermore, its decomposition characteristics support smooth, uniform metal activation, thereby avoiding the localized heat spikes that can damage catalyst active sites during startup.

Applications
Specifically, as a specialized sulfiding agent, TBPS is primarily used for:
- Catalyst presulfiding and continuous sulfur injection for hydrotreating (HDT) and hydrocracking (HDC) catalysts
- Furnace tube passivation in steam cracking units to inhibit coke formation
- Extreme pressure (EP) additive in cutting fluids, gear oils, and industrial lubricants
Packaging
Overall, we supply TBPS in flexible packaging formats to suit both trial orders and continuous plant supply:
- 1,000 kg IBC totes (20 MT per 20ft container)
- ISO tank containers / bulk tankers (20–24 MT)
- 200 kg steel drums
