Executive standard: gb1886.258-2016
Main uses: vegetable oil extraction, organic synthesis, pharmaceutical intermediates, solvents, chemical reagents, polymerization, coating diluents, etc.
Table C2 of food industry additives in Appendix C of food additive consumption standard in gb2760-2014 national food safety standard needs to specify the function and scope of application. The list of processing additives is category 76: (n-hexane is the extraction solvent, extraction process and soybean protein processing process).
In January 2017, the national standard for n-hexane gb1886.258-2016, food additive n-hexane was officially implemented.
Characteristics of n-hexane leaching process
1. The n-hexane distillation range is short, and the volatilization of harmful substances is relatively clean and complete, which keeps the nutritional components of vegetable oil from being damaged by high temperature, enhances the safety of edible oil, reduces the leaching consumption and residue of edible oil in production, has high oil yield, and is convenient for industrial scale production.
2. Since the late 1980s, China has vigorously promoted the use of n-hexane as the solvent for vegetable oil leaching. At present, most domestic Chinese funded, joint venture and private edible oil production enterprises are using n-hexane as the leaching solvent. The sales volume of edible oil produced by these enterprises has accounted for more than 90% of the domestic market.
3. The use of n-hexane as vegetable oil extraction solvent is a strict national requirement for the edible oil processing industry and product quality standards, which is also the main variety of vegetable oil extraction solvent with n-hexane exceeding No. 6 vegetable oil extraction solvent and other solvents at home and abroad in recent ten years.
4. N-hexane has the title of “king of extraction”. At present, it is still the best extraction solvent in the vegetable oil extraction industry. Up to now, no solvent can surpass n-hexane in extraction (of course, it may appear soon with the progress of science and technology, and now many experts in this field are looking for it).
N-hexane production safety protection
1. N-hexane is a flammable liquid with low flash point. Smoking is prohibited in the production area. Keep away from heat sources, sparks, open flames and hot surfaces.
2. N-hexane storage containers and equipment shall be kept closed, used outdoors or with good ventilation, well grounded and connected, explosion-proof electrical equipment shall be used, well ventilated and illuminated, non sparking tools shall be used, and anti-static measures shall be taken.
3. Wear protective gloves, protective glasses, protective mask and other protective equipment during operation to avoid inhalation of dust or smoke. Do not eat, drink, smoke in the workplace, and avoid contact during pregnancy and lactation.
4. After receiving special instructions or reading and understanding all safety precautions, clean thoroughly after operation.
5. Do not discharge into the environment.
Safe storage of n-hexane
1. Store in a cool and well ventilated place.
2. Keep the container closed.
3. Lock and keep.
4. The storage temperature should not exceed 30 ℃ and the humidity should not exceed 80%.
5. Fire and explosion-proof technical measures shall be taken during tank storage. It is forbidden to use mechanical equipment and tools that are easy to produce sparks.
6. The storage area shall be equipped with leakage emergency treatment equipment and appropriate receiving materials.
N-hexane raw material and production
The raw material for n-hexane production is naphtha or no. 6 solvent oil.
1. Desulfurization: firstly, naphtha is subject to desulfurization process, and sulfur-containing naphtha is subject to desulfurization process to react organic sulfur to generate inorganic sulfur, and then the inorganic sulfur is neutralized.
2. De aromatization: the desulfurized naphtha is treated by de aromatization process to make the aromatic content in naphtha meet the required standard.
Desulfurization and de aromatization are commonly known as twice hydrogenation. In fact, it is disposable double hydrogenation.
3. Distillation: the pretreated naphtha enters the distillation and is cut according to the distillation range. First, it enters the light removal tower for fine vapor-liquid exchange in the tower, establishes the balance in the tower by controlling the temperature, and evaporates the light components from the top of the light removal tower. Then, the qualified mixed components enter the finished product tower from the bottom of the light removal tower. The mixed materials enter the finished product tower through vapor-liquid exchange, control the temperature regulation, establish the system balance in the tower, carry out rectification, confirm to be qualified after sampling and analysis, and enter the finished product tank.
Assay of n-hexane
According to national standards and different test items, standard test equipment and test equipment are used for inspection and testing. For example:
1. The content of components shall be detected by gas chromatography according to national standards
2. Moisture content is detected by PP moisture meter
3. An instrument for detecting the content of unsaturated hydrocarbons by bromine valence and bromine index
4. Densitometer, thermometer and measuring cylinder to measure the density of finished products
5. Check the distillation range of the finished product with the distillation range tester
Application field of n-hexane
Because n-hexane is a good low toxicity solvent, it is widely used. The main application fields are:
1. Vegetable oil leaching industry: vegetable oil is produced by leaching process and used as vegetable oil extraction solvent, which is the main application direction of n-hexane products.
2. Pharmaceutical industry: used for the preparation of pharmaceutical intermediates.
3. Rubber industry: organic synthesis, such as isoprene rubber, butyl rubber, CIS polybutadiene rubber, etc.
4. Chemical industry: polymerization reactions and catalysts, such as propylene and olefin polymerization.
5. other industries: the essence of daily chemical industry, the extraction of cosmetics in the cosmetics industry, the preparation of pigment in food processing industry, the metal surface cleaning of machinery and equipment, and the dilution of coatings.
Comparison of n-hexane and other solvents
At present, in addition to n-hexane, another vegetable oil extraction solvent is No. 6 vegetable oil extraction solvent.
Let’s take a look at the comparison between n-hexane and No. 6 vegetable oil extraction solvent:
The distillation range of vegetable oil extraction solvent is 15 ℃, the content of n-hexane is about 30%, and the solution consumption is 1.5-3kg per ton of soybean. The distillation range of n-hexane is 2-4 degrees, the content is at least 60%, the dissolution consumption is 0.5-1kg per ton, and the dissolution consumption is low, which can well achieve the role of energy conservation and emission reduction. Compared with No. 6 vegetable oil extraction solvent, there are basically no harmful substances such as benzene, sulfur and heavy metal lead and arsenic in n-hexane
