Isopentane in isotank

Isopentane (isopentane, 2-methylbutane), also known as 2-methylbutane, with chemical formula C5H12, is a colorless, transparent and volatile liquid with pleasant aromatic smell. It is mainly used in organic synthesis and also as solvent.

Product Uses
It can be used as solvent for catalyst in polyethylene production, foaming agent for expandable polystyrene, foaming agent for polyurethane foam system, deasphalting solvent and so on.
When used as solvent, it has the same effect as pentane, hexane and heptane, and its solubility is slightly worse than pentane. The product has high octane number and can be used as automobile and aircraft fuel.

As a foaming agent, it is obvious that isopentane is more suitable than cyclopentane. When foaming agent is used in the foaming process of rigid polyurethane foam, the foaming agent is heated by the heat released from polyether polyols and isocyanates, and the foaming agent is heated and vaporized and foamed.

Product Features of Isopentane

Compare isopentane with cyclopentane. When isopentane is used, polyether polyol and isocyanate react exothermically. When the temperature reaches more than 28 ℃, isopentane vaporizes and plays the role of foaming, while cyclopentane can only steam and play the role of foaming when the reaction exothermic temperature reaches about 50 ℃.

Chronic effects: mild irritation of eyes and respiratory tract. Mild dermatitis may occur after long-term skin contact.
Explosion hazard: This product is extremely flammable.
Hazard characteristics: it is extremely flammable. Its vapor and air can form an explosive mixture. It is very easy to burn and explode in case of open fire and high heat. It has a strong reaction with oxidant and even causes combustion. Its vapor is heavier than air and can spread to a considerable distance at a lower place. It will catch fire and burn back in case of fire source. In case of high heat, the pressure in the container will increase and there is a risk of cracking and explosion.
